A biker has been jailed after filming himself travelling at what is believed to be the highest speed ever clocked by a motorbike on British roads. Adam Campion, 26, hit 189mph on a stolen motorbike, pulled wheelies and weaved in and out of traffic in footage captured on a mobile phone. He has now admitted five counts of dangerous driving and has been jailed for 21 months at Nottingham Crown Court.

Police found the footage while carrying out an arrest warrant at his home in September 2016 after discovering a registration number in the boot of an abandoned car linking him to the stolen motorbike. Campion, from Hucknall, Nottinghamshire, had a laptop filled with hundreds of videos and pictures of bikes being driven recklessly. Detectives managed to identify Campion as the rider in the 189mph video despite him wearing a crash helmet. One of the videos shows Campion driving one-handed and holding his mobile phone in the other while filming his speed, which topped 189mph. Others showed him driving through red lights, driving on the wrong side of the road, doing wheelies on highways and speeding in and out of traffic.

Inspector Glenn Longden said: ‘The illegal and dangerous use of motorcycles is a massive issue to our communities and although this investigation was immensely complex and time consuming, the result in court has been satisfying. ‘I hope this prison sentence will make those who think it is acceptable to put themselves and others in danger by driving dangerously think twice. ‘They are not above the law and no matter how long it takes; we will bring them to justice. ‘I would like to say thank you to the officers within the Neighbourhood Policing Team whose tenacity during this investigation was outstanding.

‘I would also like to express my gratitude to the Crown Prosecution Service team, who worked alongside us, whose advice and guidance throughout was intrinsic to the success of this prosecution.’ Enquiries are ongoing to identify other offenders seen in the videos. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101. Tim Brady, of Harrow, north-west London, was previously described as the fastest speeding motorist ever caught in Britain when he admitted driving a Porsche at 172mph.
